As you know, Karen and I are now 100% self employed and looking to expand our Diamond Rose Shears business. We own 3 distributorships encompassing approx 1,600 salons and are looking for a few good people to work the territories. We have the Colorado Springs area available along with territories/distributorships in Douglas/Arapahoe counties and Jefferson county up through Eagle county in the mountains. There are a couple of options we can work with; one would be an independent contractor position where the person would be paid commission on all sales and service; the other option is the chance for someone to own their own business by leasing one of the distributorships from us with the option to buy the distributorship down the road. We can work through the details separate from this email but I wanted to see if there might be some people you know either personally or at church that would be interested in something like this. If someone is looking to just buy a small business in an area of Colorado other than what I mentioned above or anywhere else in the country I can introduce them to the people that can make that happen as well. An example of earning potential would be as follows:
Independent Contractor
Commission on Shear sales would be 45% and service would be 60%. The price range on the shears is $200 - $3,000 with many price points in between and we charge $30 for sharpening.
If a sales and service manager only sharpened 30 shears per week and sold only 1 shear per week ($350 average price) their compensation would look something like this:
30 sharpenings x $30 = $900 per week x 60% = $540 per week income or $2,160 per month.
1 shear sale x $350 = $350 per week x 45% = $157.50 per week income or $630 per month.
Total monthly income at this rate would be $2,790 or $33,480 per year.
Obviously, the more they sharpen and sell, the more they make. I would say the first year potential is between $30K - $50K with each month and year getting better as they grow their business. This position is not considered an employee, they would be paid their commission on a weekly basis and get a 1099 from us at year's end.
Lease Option
In this case they would be buying their shears from us during the lease at 50% off retail and keep 100% of their sharpening money. If they averaged the same sales and sharpening as above it would look something like this:
30 sharpenings x $30 = $900 per week income or $3,600 per month.1 shear sale x $350 = $350 per week x 50% = $175 per week income or $700 per month.Total monthly income at this rate would be $4,300 hundred per month or $51,600 per year.
The lease would be for 1 year with monthly lease payments of $500 for the first 6 months and $700 for the second 6 months. There is also a one time nonrefundable payment of $4,000 to start the program. Both the nonrefundable payment and all lease payments go toward their purchase. They could purchase the distributorship any time within that year for the purchase price less the $4K and lease payments. If they decide to lease the business for a second year the monthly payments would go to $1,000 per month and the agreed upon purchase price would increase 25%. The purchase price of this great small business opportunity would be between $65K - $75K. This would give someone a year to build the business before buying it. An established business generating $50K plus per year would be worth 2 to 3 times sales. Again, the more you sell and sharpen, the more you make. Karen is averaging 35+ sharpenings per week ($1,050) and 5 shear sales per month ($1,138 - we make 65% as owners) for $2,188 per week.
